How to Set Up IPTV on LG Smart TV

Step-by-step guide to get LG TV streaming in under 5 minutes

LG Smart TVs run webOS, which has one of the smoothest and most intuitive interfaces of any Smart TV platform. The LG Content Store has a decent range of IPTV player apps, and the whole setup takes about five minutes. No extra hardware needed — just install an app, enter your login details, and start watching.

What You'll Need

Before we start, ensure you have:

  • An LG Smart TV running webOS 3.5 or later (2017 model year or newer)
  • A stable internet connection — Ethernet recommended for 4K, Wi-Fi fine for HD
  • Your IPTVJoy subscription credentials (M3U URL or Xtream Codes login from your welcome email)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Open the LG Content Store

Press the Home button on your LG Magic Remote to open the webOS launcher bar at the bottom of the screen. Scroll right and select 'LG Content Store' (the shopping bag icon). This is where you download apps on LG TVs.

Tip: If you do not see the LG Content Store on the launcher bar, scroll to the far right and select the pencil icon to add it.
2

Search for an IPTV app

Inside the Content Store, use the search bar at the top to search for 'IPTV Smarters'. If it appears, select it and tap 'Install'. If Smarters is not available, search for 'SS IPTV', 'Smart IPTV', 'IBO Player', or 'DuplexPlay' — these are the most reliable alternatives for LG webOS.

3

Open the app and choose your login method

Launch the app from the webOS launcher bar. If you installed IPTV Smarters, select 'Login with Xtream Codes API' and enter your Server URL, Username, and Password. If you installed SS IPTV or Smart IPTV, the app will display a device MAC address or activation code — note it down for the next step.

4

Activate via MAC address (SS IPTV / Smart IPTV only)

Open a browser on your phone or computer and go to the app's activation website (e.g., ss-iptv.com/users/playlist or siptv.app/mylist). Enter your TV's MAC address or code, then paste your IPTVJoy M3U URL into the playlist field. Save it, go back to your TV, and restart the app.

Tip: If you used Xtream Codes login in the previous step, skip this entirely — MAC activation is only needed for apps that do not support direct login.
5

Configure the EPG and picture settings

In the app's settings, make sure the EPG source is set up — Xtream Codes does this automatically, but M3U-based apps may need the EPG URL pasted separately. For the best picture, go to LG Settings > Picture > Picture Mode and select 'Cinema' or 'Film Maker Mode' to reduce oversaturation.

6

Start watching

Navigate to Live TV inside the app and select a channel. The LG Magic Remote's pointer control makes browsing channels fast and intuitive. Add your favourite channels to the favourites list for one-click access.

How to Optimize for Zero Buffering

Most guides stop at installation. We want to ensure you get the absolute best, stutter-free experience. Here is how to optimize your setup:

  • Increase Buffer Size

If your streaming app allows it (Settings > General > Buffer Size), change it from "Small/Normal" to "Large" or "5 Seconds". This prevents micro-stutters during live matches by pre-loading more of the video data.

  • Use Hardware Decoding (HW+)

Always ensure the video player settings are set to Hardware (HW) Decoder rather than Software (SW). This offloads the heavy video rendering directly to the device's graphics chip for crystal clear 4K.

Troubleshooting FAQ

LG's app store is more limited than Samsung's or Android TV's. If the popular apps are not showing up, try 'Flix IPTV', 'Net IPTV', or 'Nanomid' — at least one of these should be available. If nothing works, the simplest solution is to plug an Amazon Firestick into a spare HDMI port.

Go to LG Settings > General > Safety and make sure 'Application Lock' is turned off for the IPTV app. Also check Settings > General > About This TV > User Agreements and accept any pending agreements. webOS can be fussy about permissions on first launch.

If you were using LG's built-in AirPlay or screen mirroring before switching to the IPTV app, restart the TV first. webOS sometimes keeps the mirroring session active in the background, which can cause the IPTV app to lag or lose audio.

Some channels use codecs that older LG TV processors struggle with. Try switching the stream format in your IPTV app from TS to HLS (or vice versa). If a specific channel category does not work, check your DNS settings — go to LG Settings > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced Settings and change DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I watch IPTV on LG Smart TV?

Yes. LG Smart TVs running webOS 3.5 or later (2017 and newer) support IPTV apps from the LG Content Store. Install a player, enter your subscription credentials, and you can stream live channels and on-demand content directly on the TV.

What is the best IPTV app for LG TV?

IPTV Smarters is the easiest if it is available on your model, because it supports direct Xtream Codes login. SS IPTV is another solid choice that has been on the LG Content Store for years. IBO Player and DuplexPlay are good alternatives if neither is available.

How do I install IPTV on LG webOS TV?

Press Home on the LG remote, open the LG Content Store, and search for an IPTV app like IPTV Smarters or SS IPTV. Install it, open it, and enter your subscription login details. The whole process takes about five minutes.

Why is my IPTV app crashing on LG TV?

webOS apps can crash when the TV's memory gets full. Go to Settings > General > Storage and clear the cache. Restart the TV by unplugging it for 10 seconds. If the problem continues, delete and reinstall the app — this resets its data and usually fixes persistent crashes.

Can I use a USB drive to load IPTV on LG TV?

Some apps like SS IPTV allow you to upload a playlist file via USB. Save your M3U playlist file to a USB drive, plug it into the TV, and open the file through the IPTV app's local file import option. However, the easier method is pasting the M3U URL through the app's web portal or using Xtream Codes login directly.
